InTASC Standard #5: Application of Content.

The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues. (InTASC, 2013)

Vision Board.png

Brief Description of Evidence:

In the spring semester of 2022 in my EDUC 240 Introduction to Physical Education and Health for Teachers, I had the opportunity to create a vision board about myself and the goals that I had for the future. During this assignment, we discussed the 8 categories of wellness which include: emotional/mental, spiritual, social, physical, occupational, intellectual, financial, and environmental. In this vision board, we had to include these 8 categories and find how we would like to improve these wellness aspects in our own lives. Once this vision board was created, I presented my board to other future educators and explain in detail why I chose the pictures that I did.

Analysis of What I Learned:

During the creation of my vision board, I learned how to think creatively about the different aspects of wellness that I wanted to work on. I learned in much depth about the aspects of wellness. I learned how important a project like this can be because I believe that it’s important to take a breath and to look at myself and the goals that I’m wanting. My life is a little crazy with everything going on and this activity made me realize that I do still have goals I want to achieve and there are ways that I can reach those goals.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence in the InTASC Standard:

I am competent in standard 2 by having a better understanding of myself. I had to create a board that meant something to me while looking at the global and local issues around me. One of my examples that I wanted to improve on was recycling which can help issues that are going on around the world. I was able to dive into my perspective on different things while explaining this to other future educators. I used my creativity to create the board and add photos on the board that I took myself. I believe the theorist that matches this artifact would be Carol Dweck. Her theory is that it’s all about mindset. (Mind Tools Content Team, n.d.) Mindset is a very important thing to take into consideration. Everyone has a different perspective on the local and global issues that are taking place. This would be a great activity to do with everyone to help them better themselves and help their community. If this was done more often, this could be something that could be collaborated with other educators. Constantly having a growth mindset which I had while creating the board, there are other things that you can learn every year to become a better teacher.
